Riverside studios

In 2015, artist Pauline Le Britton approached spacetocreate about the need for studio space for local artists. From this initial discussion the idea of establishing a town centre studio space in Haverfordwest was born.

Using a meanwhile lease as a model, in the Autumn of 2015, spacetocreate took on Unit 2 in Haverfordwest’s Riverside Shopping Centre, providing studio space for an initial group of 6 artists: Pauline Le Britton, Heidi Baker, Sharron Harris, penny d jones, Ruth Sargeant and Louise Bird.

During the first three years, studio artists contributed to Confluence’s Laboratory – an experimental art and regeneration programme in the town, including: Artsheds, PLATFORM and the Ideas Lab. For Haverfordwest festival week in July 2017 studio artists also co-curated Cabinets of Curiosities, a show of new and recent work.

In January 2018, the ground floor space was reconfigured to provide a bookable meeting room, workshop and exhibition spaces alongside the six artists studio spaces.

The studios hosted an annual programme of exhibitions, artist talks and workshops, as well as network meetings for artists and creative practitioners interested in socially engaged practice. They also provided a base for two National Theatre of Wales Located Residencies – Our Curiosities and Queer Tales.
