In The Picture
In The Picture is a multi media project capturing the voices of a group of young people and providing a platform for them to express issues that are important to them. The starting point was the consultation carried out by Pembrokeshire Youth Assembly in 2014, which aimed to identify issues affecting young people in Pembrokeshire.
The project began with 3 half-day collage and painting workshops, facilitated by Pip Lewis at The Garth Youth and Community Project. These sessions provided opportunities to experiment with collage and painting techniques to create artworks for the second stage of the project. The final two sessions, facilitated by Sharron Harris, used projection and sound to bring the images to life.
The end result is a short film in which the original collage images have become inhabited by images of the participants and recordings of their voices, providing a commentary on local services and their experience of using them.
The young people highlight the need for:
- their voices to be heard by community service providers and what they expect from local community services
- community services to be consistent and trustworthy
- public services to respect young people and what this means in practice
