Ruth Sargeant

After 20 years working as a Mental Health professional, Ruth spent a year living in Canada, where she discovered an enthusiasm for painting, quilting and ceramics. On return to Britain in 1997 she started her formal educational journey which led to a degree in Ceramic Art and Design from West Wales School of the Arts in 2009.

Exhibiting frequently with installation, painting and ceramics since, her makers roots from across the pond have led to work of a decidedly eclectic quality where the boundaries between fine art and craft dissolve in the execution of an idea.

The transformation of materials, usually involving fire, is at the heart of my practice. I favour the use of materials with a feminine edge, and almost always multiples in some incantation.
